Today, you are 3.5 years old. You see the world as a magical place and you are in awe of everything around you - like the way the sky looks at sunrise and the feeling of sand between your toes. You look in the mirror and love what you see. You know that you’re beautiful and you make yourself laugh. You think I am the greatest person ever.
Some years from now, the world will feel different – at times big and scary. You will meet people who are unkind and sometimes you will be unkind to yourself. I will seem overprotective and old fashioned.
Then one day, a mischievous miniature person will come into your house and turn everything upside down – literally - the furniture, pictures, anything not bolted into the floor. It will be chaotic and exhausting and yet deliriously fun. That little person will remind you how magical the world is, especially the things that you stopped noticing like how the ocean looks during sunset and the feeling of sand between your toes. You will look in the mirror and love the person looking back at you again because you see the beauty of your soul instead of just the beauty of your face.
You will realize that you love this little person more than you’ve ever loved anything in your life. And then you will realize how very much I love you.
Thank you for making Mother’s Days my favorite day of the year.
