Coming Clean about Summer Skin

Coming Clean about Summer Skin

I love the lingering sunsets and brightness of summer, but I’m also ready to let the season melt away. After all the travel and adventure, it’s a welcome relief to come home and give my skin a fresh start. The dryness of an airplane cabin, extra time in the sun and too much air conditioning can take a toll on skin. Here are some of my favorite ways to feel refreshed and recovered after summer fun.

Deep clean

During the summer, we tend to wear more sunscreen (a good thing), which is important to remove before going to sleep at night. After a day at the beach, I love pairing the Kinu Pure Silk Polishing Face Cloth with the Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil. The Cleansing Oil melts away sunscreen and makeup, while the gentle exfoliation from the Face Cloth makes my skin feel refreshed. (Tip: Cover your index and middle finger with the Face Cloth to get to hard-to-reach areas, such as the sides on the nose and along your hairline.)

After removing my makeup and sunscreen, I always reach for a Polished Rice Enzyme Powder. Enzymatic exfoliation is the key to recovering from a sun-filled summer. Your skin may be feeling a little more sensitive from dryness or sun exposure, so it’s best to stay away from an abrasive scrub. Be sure to choose the right Enzyme Powder for your skin type, and consider if the condition or needs of your skin has changed.

Treat yourself

After exfoliating, your skin is ready to benefit from any treatments you use afterwards. That’s why I love using a serum to nourish my skin right after cleansing. If you’re new to serums, they have a thinner consistency than moisturizers, and a higher concentration of efficacious ingredients. Your skin drinks up this lighter texture easier, taking in all the skin-loving benefits.

Our Radiant Deep Brightening Serum is a favorite of mine because it targets the cause of dark spots (such as sunspots) and hyperpigmentation. Melanocytes are cells deep in the layers of your skin that try to protect it by releasing melanin. When they overreact, they create what we see as a sunspot. Licorice Root extract in the Brightening Serum calms those overactive melanocytes, helping to prevent new sunspots while treating existing ones. If you spent a lot of time outdoors this season, try incorporating the Brightening Serum to keep your skin tone even.

Mask for it

If you did get a bit too much sun, help calm the redness with our Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask. Made from the water of a whole coconut, our Lifting Mask is the drink of water your skin needs. The gel-like fibers of the mask were developed as a way to treat burn victims because it has the ability to absorb many times its weight in liquid. It also adheres more closely to the skin so more of the treatment serum can be absorbed directly by the skin. For sunburns on the body, I like to cut the Lifting Mask and apply it where needed for instant, cooling comfort.

How do you like to get a fresh start as summer comes to an end? I would love to hear how you get rest and relaxation.
