The holidays are a beautiful time with festive decorations at every turn and plenty of joyous gatherings. It can be very easy to get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of the season. For me, reflecting on the work that we do with Room to Read helps slow things down and find meaning this time of year.
I am so grateful to you all for getting us on our way toward one million days of education for girls in developing countries. It is an amazing success that I’m honored to share, but a million is a big number that doesn’t hold enough meaning. What opened my eyes and heart were the many ways Room to Read can make an impact in an individual’s life.
If you take a closer look at the many moments that add up to a million days, it means:
A girl doesn’t have to worry about safe passage to school.
A young woman is matched with a mentor to help fulfill her dream of becoming an engineer.
A family attends a workshop that helps them decide to keep their daughter in school.
The education and life skills these girls gain can end the cycle of illiteracy in one generation. That is a powerful thing. By discovering their own strength, they can advocate for themselves and educate their own children when they start families. This lends perspective to the work we do at Tatcha every day. With your help, our goal is to reach a million days by the end of the year. It’s a simple way to make the world just a little bit better.
