As a child, I didn’t have many toys to play with. Instead, my mother would hand me a piece of paper and teach me how to transform it into a crane, a heart or an intricate box.

To this day, I will pick up a piece of paper when I am distracted or overwhelmed by my to-do list. The small folds keep my hands busy, gradually clearing my mind and leaving me with a supply of paper treasures. The last few days, Alea has joined me in folding decorations for packages, our tree and around the house.

Although made from a humble sheet of paper, the cranes and ornaments are imbued with meaning and purpose when folded by her little hands. The crane may be slightly crooked or a heart bigger on one side than another, but they are my favorite decorations.

What are your favorite ways to deck the halls for the holidays? I would love to see your photos!
