Japanese Rice Bran
How does Japanese Rice Bran benefit your skin?

Benefits
Dryness, Even Texture, Even Tone
About
Rice bran in skincare is beloved because it can be used daily without stripping or pulling at the skin. The ingredient is ideal for many skin types because it delicately removes the dead skin cells that make your complexion appear dull without irritation. We took inspiration from historical texts and crafted our own enzyme powder, which includes Japanese rice bran. This precious ingredient can be found in all four iterations of The Rice Polish, including Deep, Gentle, and Calming. All four polishes are water-activated exfoliants, featuring nourishing Japanese rice bran, that transform into a creamy foam for a smooth polish and healthy glow.
“ Rice bran benefits the skin by effectively removing impurities while also providing skin-nourishing hydration. When activated with water, rice bran powder not only decongests pores, but also can brighten, diminish hyperpigmentation, and enable skin to better absorb the next steps in your skincare ritual.
Science
Komenuka is a vital source of vitamins A, B, and E, as well as a complex blend of over 100 antioxidant compounds, including omegas 3 and 6, proteins, fats, fibers, ferulic acid, and minerals. It’s often referred to as skin softening, too, because rice bran naturally contains squalene and tocotrienols, compounds known to hydrate and repair skin. And when combined with other ingredients, like those found in The Rice Polish, rice bran has been shown to improve skin’s overall moisture levels and maintain skin’s pH levels.
History
Rice bran has been used for centuries in Japan as a key ingredient in cleansers, masks, and bathing powders to keep skin soft and supple. Geisha used leftover water from washing rice in the bath for smooth and luminous skin. The humble ingredient also effectively removes impurities while providing skin-nourishing oils.
Provenance
Rice likely originated in eastern India and southern China, but varieties can be found growing all over the world now. Our Japanese rice bran is harvested from the Tsuya region, an area renowned for producing superior rice bran extracts and rice germ oil.
