Why It Works

For centuries, gold artisans in Kyoto have long used abaca paper to protect the precious gold they hammered into whisper-thin leafing. The geisha discovered these papers were also incredibly soft, strong and absorbent, ideal for removing excess oil from delicate skin without disturbing makeup or stripping skin of essential moisture.

Tatcha uses 100% abaca leaf, made from its innermost pulp, to bring you this time-tested secret, handmade in Japan. The 23-karat gold flakes in each leaflet are an homage to the gold-leafing workshops where this treasure was discovered.

How To Use

Suggested Usage

For a petal-fresh complexion, gently pat a single leaflet anywhere there is excess oil. Do not rub or wipe. Use both sides of each sheet and discard after use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Beauty Staple!!! These blotting papers not only take off excess oil while leaving my make up untouched, they're beautiful too! Living in a hotter climate, it was important for me to find a way to rid my face of unsightly sweat and these did just the trick. Now I will never leave the house without these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Matte skin I have active skin which results in excess oil production. This problem has always tended to make my skin appear oily on a day-to-day basis and also in photographs. I have begun to use these leaflets on a daily basis and they leave my skin looking fantastic by removing excess oily. I cannot imagine going through the day without using one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Luxurious and not flimsy This aburatorigami is thicker than the usual blotting papers, so it's less prone to tearing and holds up better while blotting. One of the (fairly large) sheets is more than enough for my face, but then again I have dry-combination skin. The gold flakes are a lovely little touch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the best face changer! Great product for removing the shine on your face, this makes for a better picture as well as a better look. Great packaging with a great price, and some to share with friends! I added on in a letter the other day, I know it will be enjoyed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jaw-Dropping I swear, these blotting papers magnetically attract oil. When I first used these, all I did was gently lay a sheet on my cheek, and my jaw dropped open as I watched the sheet almost instantaneously become soaked in my face oil. (Gross, I know, but that's what you get when you're as oily-skinned as I am.) That's actually my only "gripe" (not even, really) with these blotting papers: I wish they were thicker so that they could absorb even more oil in one go. (But then I guess it wouldn't be quite as magical watching these sheets instantaneously soak up oil?) As it is, I need to use 2 sheets at a time. On a similar note, I also wish these papers came in a larger pack. For example, all the other blotting papers that I've ever tried come in packs of 100. Considering how quickly I go through these, a 100-pack would be much more substantial for me than a 30-pack. Tatcha's Aburatorigami are truly a class above the rest. They were, I believe, Tatcha's first product, and the company should be proud to have such a world-class product as their standard-bearer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best I've ever tried This is a really high quality product! When I first got them, I was very impressed with the classy packaging and loved the gold flecks. However, I have to admit that I thought that other than being prettier, these looked like any other blotting paper. I was initially also less thrilled with the pricing, $12 for 30 sheets (when there are other brands that are cheaper and/or give you at least 100). After trying it, though, I see a big difference. What sets these apart is that they are more absorbent, and keep shine away longer than other ones I have tried (about 3-5 hours, give or take). At the same time, I like that it doesn't strip too much moisture away either. I also don't mind about less sheets now, because I found I don't need as many. One sheet is so large it can cover your whole face, and since you need to use it less often, you don't need as many (other brands have more sheets but, are not that cost effective when they're smaller so you need to use more than one, and also have to keep using more often). Tatcha overcame even my initial misgivings and now I'm a fan! BTW, also have to give a shoutout to the wonderful customer service, with the fast shipping, beautiful packaging and personalized note.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Papers Ever My skin has gotten oilier as I get older (ugh!) so I have tried every oil control product in the world and these are by far the best blotting papers ever. They're pricey but I would normally have to use two papers from other brands whereas, these are a good large size. You barely have to touch the paper to your skin at all and it's like the paper draws the oil right up like a magnet! What I do is hold the paper up to my skin and then with my index finger I very gently push and swirl my finger around over the paper so I'm touching my face as gently as possible. These do not get sticky with your oil and pull your makeup away with it. They just absorb any moisture from your skin beautifully, leaving your makeup intact and looking 'petal fresh' indeed. I always replenish my stash of these papers any time I can get them for a good deal and keep a few packs of them at the ready in a drawer. I'm never without these papers and even when I've tried less expensive kinds, I always find myself reaching for these again. There's just nothing else that compares. I do think $10 would be more reasonable but at least they outperform every other brand for the price. Please bring the travel tube papers back in stock as I would love to get those but every time I try they're out of stock. Thank you!!

Where is your gold sourced from? I'm concerned about the gold-related environmental destruction in the Amazon particularly, and however much I love Tatcha products, I would never want to support that (and it's only included as a historical nod here too).

Asked by: Elise
Thank you for your question! The gold is from Australia, and the gold leaf is made in Japan. We hope this helps!

Do these expire if I don't open the pack until later? I want to purchase them now b/c of the gwp but I only need them during summer. Will these not expire before then?

Asked by: lettuce27
Great question! Our Original Aburatorigami Beauty Papers are not considered to be a skincare product so it does not have an expiration date. You will still be enjoying them later this summer!
