Four Benefits to Using Eye Cream Consistently

From hydration to brightening, eye creams deliver. Learn four key perks of consistent use and find the best product for revitalized eyes.

As the time-old adage goes, the eyes are the window to the soul. The skin around your eyes is the most delicate not just on your face, but on almost your entire body, which is why it’s so important to treat your eyes with the utmost care. Whether you’re a longtime fan of eye creams or looking to add one to your daily ritual for the first time, there is a product–or products–for you.

Below, explore the four key benefits of adding eye cream to your daily routine—and the formulas that achieve each one.

Delicate Eyes Deserve Day-to-Night Care

Many people like to use one eye cream for morning and another for night. If you find a lightweight eye cream works best for you during the daytime, try out our Luminous Deep Hydration Firming Eye Serum, which provides lightweight hydration, relief from puffiness, and works well under sunscreen and makeup for daytime use. At night, you might look for a richer, more emollient moisturizer that can serve as an eye treatment to deliver deeper results while you sleep.

Applying Eye Cream The Right Way

No matter what eye cream you choose, it’s best to very lightly tap on a rice grain-sized amount right after or before applying your moisturizer morning and night. Our founder, Victoria Tsai has a brilliant tip: “With your fingertips, apply eye cream liberally in big circles around your eyes, down to the top of your cheekbones, and all the way up to your eyebrows. I think of the outline of Jackie O’s huge, iconic sunglasses.”

Benefit 1: Reduce Dark Circles

There are several reasons why you may have developed dark circles or discoloration under your eyes, the most common being stress and fatigue, followed by allergies and genetics.

The Brightening Eye Cream is the best under eye cream for dark circles. Think of this eye cream as a mindful reset for tired eyes. A synergistic mix of skin brighteners and heritage Japanese extracts works in harmony with slow-release vitamin C, bathing the area in continuous radiance for up to 12 hours. Puffiness melts away, three kinds of dark circles lighten, and the skin’s barrier grows stronger with every application. Hyperpigmentation fades; your eyes regain their natural, healthy glow.

Benefit 2: Hydrate

The primary reason the eye area can be so dry is that it has very few oil glands, so it doesn’t have the natural ability to keep skin moist and hydrated. On top of that, using drying makeup removers and cleansers can deplete what little moisture you have left around the eyes, causing extreme dryness.

Among our best-selling eye creams is The Silk Peony, which melts to release a double shield of hydration for the delicate skin around the eye area. It’s formulated with line-smoothing liquid silk and Japanese white peony, which seals in moisture and reduces dryness.

Benefit 3: Reduce Puffiness

Chronically swollen and puffy eyes can be caused by a myriad of sources, including lack of sleep, stress, diet (including alcohol), and allergies. Getting plenty of sleep, reducing allergy symptoms, and curbing alcohol intake are all great ways to decrease puffiness, but an eye cream formulated with caffeine is a great help too.

Our Luminous Deep Hydration Firming Eye Serum combines Okinawa red algae, honeysuckle leaf, and that beneficial caffeine, along with a cooling massage applicator. The serum diminishes the appearance of fine lines and puffiness, and is also visibly firming and moisturizing. Additionally, an eye-roller or cooling applicator is a beautiful way to not only provide a gentle massage to the area, but reduce inflammation and puffiness. When massaging, just be cautious of pressure and go gently. Squeeze serum from the tube onto the cooling ceramic applicator and massage under the eyes to restore youthful radiance to the eye area.

Benefit 4: Promote Elasticity

Eyes that are drier and have a lack of firmness require a more luxurious, enhanced formula for optimum improvement and that’s where our Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream steps in. The rich, velvety formula is packed with Okinawa red algae and hyaluronic acid, which hydrates the under-eye area, and peony and honeysuckle extracts to help improve the appearance of elasticity and boost healthy aging.

The Most Impressive Aloe Vera Benefits for Skin

Aloe vera is well known for its ability to soothe a sunburn, but the humble ingredient does far more than address skin post-sun.  The ancient plant is naturally anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-viral, antiseptic, and contains wound-healing properties.  Aloe vera extract has been clinically shown to deeply hydrate, minimize the appearance of wrinkles (yes, really!), reduce acne, relieve skin irritation, heal wounds, and soothe redness and swelling.  There are many different types of aloe vera (nearly 400), each with its own benefits and properties, plus the pure form of the extract can be incredibly sticky. This is why it’s ideal to get the benefits of aloe from a clinically-tested skincare product. All the pros, none of the tacky sensation on the skin.

Ectoin Heals, Hydrates, and Soothes The Skin — Here’s How to Use It

Ectoin is an up-and-coming skincare ingredient that is produced by microorganisms classified as  ‘extremophiles.’ An extremophile is a microorganism that can live in extreme and harsh conditions due to ectoin’s stress-shielding properties. On skin, ectoin has been shown to be a potent hydrating, soothing, and pore-minimizing antioxidant.  Look for formulas that allow ectoin to remain on the skin for long periods of time, like serums, moisturizers, and sunscreens, so you can soak in the benefits all day or night.

The Milky Sunscreen vs. The Silk Sunscreen

The Milky Sunscreen vs. The Silk Sunscreen

Tatcha is becoming synonymous with effective sunscreens (we are honored!), but with multiple options to choose from, it can be difficult to choose which one is right for you. The Milky Sunscreen and The Silk Sunscreen are both beautiful options, but they do differ in notable ways.  The Milky Sunscreen is the newest option, featuring SPF 50+ chemical coverage with a prestigious PA++++ rating (meaning it’s as high on the UVA protection scale as possible), has a natural finish, and contains a satisfying milky lotion texture that quickly absorbs into skin.  The Silk Sunscreen is our beloved mineral SPF 50 formula, with a light-as-air feeling that is sheer and hydrating. It has a radiant finish for an instant glow and includes niacinamide to address uneven skin tone (for long-term, naturally glowing skin).
