The Longevity Serum is a wonderful skincare innovation, but how does it compare (and contrast) with other healthy-aging formulas? We help you uncover which formula is right for you.
Often, aging is spoken of negatively. “Anti-aging” is a prime example of the ‘fight’ against aging. However, we view aging differently, with a greater focus on ‘healthy aging,’ aiming to optimize our bodies and skin to look and feel our best. The perfect example is the ushering in of the skin longevity movement, a practice of maintaining skin’s health and wellbeing at the cellular level, naturally slowing the effects of accelerated aging. The focus is not on superficial signs of aging, but rather on the long-term health of skin. At Tatcha, we’ve adopted this modern approach and developed products that help your skin look and feel its best, including the new Longevity Serum. But how does this formula compare with our existing serums and skincare? Below, we help you discover which serum (or serums) is ideal for you.
The Longevity Serum Explained
What makes The Longevity Serum different from other anti-aging products? At the root of it, The Longevity Serum boosts cellular resilience to visibly delay signs of skin aging. Aging is very complex and individual, but cellular senescence – aka when cells permanently stop dividing and begin rapidly aging in place – is often one of the first markers of aging, creating a domino-like effect to kickstart other hallmarks of aging to occur. So, if we can reduce aging senescent cells from unnaturally accelerating, we can allow the skin to age naturally. This is where cellular skincare products like The Longevity Serum step in. This formula is proven to reduce aging senescent cells by up to 55 percent.* It’s the ideal choice for anyone wanting to have stronger, visibly firmer, and smoother skin that looks collagen-rich.
The Longevity Serum vs. The Silk Serum
Stronger, smoother skin that’s visibly firmer? That does sound similar to The Silk Serum, a beloved formula that is powered by our retinol alternative duo (that is proven to work better than retinol). The two serums do have a few notable differences, though. The Longevity Serum is focused on the long-term, reducing aging cells to delay visible signs of skin aging, and boosting skin’s strength. The formula relies on revered plants and herbs and nutrient-dense ingredients, including the senescent cell-reducing Okinawa Cellescence Complex, bio-active lipids, and a prebiotic, for visibly firmer, smoother skin in just one week.
Alternatively, The Silk Serum helps reduce deep wrinkles and fine lines, so addressing aging that has already occurred. It also firms and contours for a lifted appearance, while calming visible redness and strengthening the skin barrier. This calming and redness-reducing benefit is notable because most retinol-based serums increase redness and irritation. Tatcha’s formula, which contains gentle retinol-alternatives, cranberry extract and sea fennel extract, and silk protein, was proven to be two times more effective than retinol.**
Would you like to have reduced redness and visibly firmer skin that looks collagen-rich? The Longevity Serum and The Silk Serum play nicely with one another and can be used together, helping to address visible signs of aging from multiple angles. After cleansing and before moisturizing morning and/or night, use The Longevity Serum, allow it to absorb for a minute, and then follow up with The Silk Serum.
The Longevity Serum vs. The Dewy Skin Serum
The Longevity Serum supports skin resilience and surface cell turnover, proactively delaying visible signs of aging for stronger, smoother skin. While it has a more long-term approach, it also works to boost skin in as soon as a week into use. Comparatively, The Dewy Serum isn’t too dissimilar. The bestselling formula instantly improves radiance and hydration and, over four weeks, has been proven to boost skin elasticity*** and improve the look of fine lines.****
The hardworking Dewy Serum locks in moisture and plumps the skin with our Hadasei-3 complex, gentle AHAs, hyaluronic acid, and squalane. The juicy serum pairs beautifully with other serums, including The Longevity Serum, helping to make skin look dewy and glowy. Use morning and/or night, applying the lightweight Longevity Serum first, allowing it to absorb for 30 to 60 seconds, and then lock in hydration with the milky Dewy Serum afterwards, following with the moisturizer of your choice.
The Longevity Serum vs. The Brightening Serum
The Longevity Serum is an all-in-one hybrid gel-oil serum that reveals visibly firmer, smoother skin with a more collagen-rich appearance. The innovative Brightening Serum also works on firming skin and boosting collagen, but it accomplishes these tasks – and so much more – differently.
The Brightening Serum, with 12-hour time-release vitamin C, Japanese plum, ferulic acid, and a pro-glutathione antioxidant booster, works overtime to brighten dull and uneven skin tone, visibly firm, and target hyperpigmentation. The serum addresses the look of dullness, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, post-acne marks, and uneven skin tone and texture. The Longevity Serum is focused on skin resilience, firmness, and preventive care. They are similar in several ways – including visibly firming – but The Brightening Serum has been clinically proven to instantly brighten skin, improve the appearance of post-acne marks, and improve the skin barrier and moisture levels.*****
As with most Tatcha formulas, these two unique serums pair well together and can be used concurrently for visibly brighter and stronger skin. Use morning and/or night, applying the slightly thinner Brightening Serum first, allowing it to absorb for a minute, and then following with The Longevity Serum. Follow with your favorite moisturizer.
The Longevity Serum vs. The Serum Stick
At first glance, these two serums have little in common. The Longevity Serum is a powerhouse of innovation, working to actually reverse senescent cell biomarkers and make accelerated skin aging stop in its tracks. While the slim-sized and humble Serum Stick can be taken on the go, used as needed to boost radiance and hydration. But don’t count our pocket-sized serum out. The Serum Stick might not delay visible signs of aging, but it does have impressive and specific benefits. In a clinical study, the stick formula was shown to instantly improve dryness and radiance, and, after two weeks, improve skin texture, and, after four weeks, improve the look of fine lines.******
The two formulas can work together, helping to prevent unnatural skin aging and boost the appearance of collagen-rich skin, while also improving dryness, radiance, and softness. The two work wonders when paired, just apply The Longevity Serum morning and/or night, and then The Serum Stick can be used atop of it or any time of day, even on top of makeup to refresh and create a subtle glow.

Frequently Asked Questions
We have tirelessly tested The Longevity Serum to ensure it’s safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin. However, every individual is different and so, if you have chronically sensitive or triggered skin, we recommend spot testing the product at first to ensure it doesn’t irritate your skin. (Spot testing every single new formula is a best practice in general for this skin type.)
As highlighted above, there are so many different types of formulas, it’s truly mix and match, or choose your own adventure. Depending on what benefits you’re looking for, whether that be addressing fine lines (The Silk Serum), boosting hydration (the Dewy Serum), brightening skin and reducing visible post-acne marks (The Brightening Serum), or instantly improving skin radiance (The Serum Stick), there is a serum combination for you. While those products on their own are wonderful, pairing it with The Longevity Serum ensures your skin is as resilient as you are.
The Longevity Serum is safe paired with exfoliating acids. But caution should always be taken when using active ingredients, like an exfoliant. Use best practices, like spot testing both items and only exfoliate once or twice a week at first to ensure no irritation occurs before incorporating both into your daily regimen.
The Longevity Serum is specifically tested to play nicely with all formulas — but we can only test inside our own brand. We cannot guarantee that other products from brands will not irritate, so, as mentioned many times (sorry!), spot test at first to ensure no irritation occurs.
